MRO Special | Asian Aviation

7 Sep 2023

In the latest issue of Asian Aviation magazine, CEO Clyde Buntrock addresses issues around recruiting a technical workforce and building a solid foundation for talent entering the aerospace industry.

The Group has seen a strong recovery in its operations in Singapore in 2023. As passenger numbers through Changi Airport move above pre-pandemic levels, promising further growth, there is an increased demand for MRO services in Singapore and AJW has grown its customer base in this region. The 91 year old organisation is taking its operations into the future through its focus on its people and digital transformation.

AJW remains acutely aware of the need to appeal to the Gen-Z mindset and look to technology to aid this. AI (Artificial Intelligence) and AR (Augmented Reality) in training are just two of the ways the forward-thinking business is achieving this. This industry leader has an innovative mindset culture and has digital enablement at the core of its business. ‘All of us at AJW are learning and embracing new innovations and are bringing our workforce on this journey with us while we manage the change.’

The Group is on a digital transformation journey and through a cycle of engagement from all levels in the business, young and old, experienced and apprentice, it remains committed to transforming aviation efficiency. Buntrock believes employees drive innovation, which leads to growth and triggers change. By utilising technology, the company commoditises the vast experience of senior technicians and can transfer this knowledge to the younger technicians in new and engaging ways. It aligns its digital strategy with its business strategy to take the Group into the future. Buntrock says,

‘Success is about having the vision and ability to lead, challenge, and create winning teams that are greater than the sum of its parts.’

The Group is also a strong advocate for women in aviation.  The CEO of AJW Aviation & Technique firmly believes that young women must see more examples of successful women throughout the industry, from pilots and technicians to the C-Suite.

The industry must continue investing in inclusive talent management and career pathing, he states, beginning with students and emerging leaders seeing aerospace as a real value proposition with forward-thinking ideologies and the potential to progress in various facets.
